Associate Professor of Virology, Department of Infection Biology, Faculty of Infectious & Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
I studied for my BSc in Virology and Immunology at the University of Warwick, then completed my PhD working jointly at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Health Protection Agency (now Public Health England).
Following this, I worked with the Medical Research Council, and then returned to the Health Protection Agency/Public Health England, where I was Head of the Enteric Virus Unit 2014-2016.
I have worked with national and international public health agencies, including the World Health Organization, with the Global Polio Laboratory Network.
I enjoy a large teaching role, and am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. At LSHTM, I am Deputy Programme Director for the LSHTM MSc Medical Microbiology Programme, and am Module Organiser for Core Virology, Clinical Virology and Molecular Virology modules.
I also teach on undergraduate programmes at UCL and University of Hertfordshire, on subjects such as gastroenteritis viruses, poliovirus, emerging viral infections, diagnostic virology and clinical virology.
