Monica Hill

Research Assistant, Department of Infection Biology, Faculty of Infectious & Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

I hold a BSc Biochemistry degree from the University of Portsmouth and an MSc in Medical Microbiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where my MSc thesis involved the characterisation of variation in the genome of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever Virus.

Following the completion of this degree, I remained within the teaching laboratory at LSHTM as a Lab Demonstrator, assisting with the MSc Medical Microbiology course and also the preparation of bacterial and viral cultures for practical classes.

I joined the Allen Laboratory in February 2021, where my current tasks involve the surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in environmental samples (e.g sewage), using methods such as magnetic bead capture and real-time qPCR.
